Scarlett Johansson Proform Her Next Movie The Avengers: Move over, Scarlett Johansson. It seems your Black Widow character might not be the only femme fatale kicking her way through Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers.”While making the publicity rounds in Australia, the “Avengers” director reportedly told the press that Johansson would be the only lady superhero, but not the only actress cast.

“It is true that the movie is only going to have one female avenger,” said Whedon, according to Moviehole. “But she will not be the only female character.”So who makes sense? Well, Gwyneth Paltrow could accompany Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark as loyal love interest Pepper Potts. And, as Moviehole suggests, Whedon could recast Betty Ross now that Mark Ruffalo is playing Bruce Banner and The Hulk. (To date, the character from the comics has been played by Jennifer Connelly and Liv Tyler.

Or it could be someone completely new. Because right now, “The Avengers” doesn’t have enough characters to fill the entire screen!

As for the story, Whedon tipped his hand ever so slightly by saying, “It will be a new story that has many things from different arcs of the comics in it. There is no one Avengers story that you can just do the way that you can do the origin of Spider-Man. You really have to cull from the original and The Ultimates, which is one of The Avengers titles.”Anticipation builds. “The Avengers” starts filming in February. It will be in theaters in 2012.
