The Broadway shows “Red,” Memphis,” and “Fences,” were among the top winners at the 64th Annual Tony Awards in New York City. Denzel Washington, Scarlett Johansson, Catherine Zeta-Jones and “Red” star Eddie Redmayne were some of the actors who walked away with prizes.

The ceremonies were marked by an usual amount of star power–Jay-Z and Will Smith, both producers for “Fela!” were in the audience, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was a nominee for the musical “American Idiot,” and “Glee” star Lea Michele put on one of the best performances of the night with her rendition of “Don’t Rain on My Parade.
“Fences,” a revival of a play by August Wilson, garnered wins for its two stars, Viola Davis (best performance by a leading actress in a play) and Washington (best performance by a leading actor in a play). “Red,” a play by John Logan about abstract artist Mark Rothko and his assistant won for best play. “La Cage aux Folles” won for best revival of a musical. “Memphis,” a musical about music and race in the 1950s, won for best musical.
